Why Work with a Personal Trainer?

A personal training program is a great way to achieve your goals. Whether you want to lose weight, gain strength, train for sport performance, or improve your overall health, a personal trainer can help you. 

A good trainer will help you to set realistic fitness goals. Together, you'll design a personalized program to attain them. Your trainer will guide you through several steps:

  • Evaluate your fitness and track progress
  • Teach you safe and effective exercise techniques
  • Keep you motivated to move
  • Provide encouragement and support
  • Identify barriers and suggest solutions

Level 1 Trainers

Our Level 1 trainers are senior undergraduate students completing their Fitness Leadership degree in Exercise and Sport Science. Each trainer has completed academic coursework in anatomy, exercise physiology, exercise prescription, and fitness testing. 

Level 1 Training Program (4 Sessions) 

Session 1: Fitness Assessment 

Your program begins with a comprehensive evaluation:

  • Resting heart rate and blood pressure
  • Cardiovascular fitness
  • Muscular strength and endurance
  • Flexibility
  • Body composition 

Sessions 2–4: Exercise Program Development 

During these three sessions, your trainer will do several things: 

  • Create a customized exercise program.
  • Guide you through proper technique
  • Build your confidence with each exercise.
  • Provide a take-home program after your final session

Level 2 Trainers

Our Level 2 trainers are graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in Exercise and Sport Science. Each brings a bachelor's degree in a related field and several years of personal training experience. 

Level 2 Training Session Costs

Each individual session is 60 minutes long. 

  • WellU/WellnessNOW $0/session 

  • University Employee/Student $40/session 

  • Community $80/session

Training Packages

Five Personal Training Sessions 

This package includes five 60–minute sessions with a level 2 personal trainer. 

University employee/student – $175 ($35/session) 
Community member – $325 ($65/session) 

10 Personal Training Sessions 

This package offers 10 sessions with a level 2 personal trainer. Each session lasts 60 minutes.  

University student/employee – $300 ($30/session) 
Community member – $550 ($55/session) 

Policies

Late Policy

You are responsible for arriving to your session on time. Your personal trainer is required by policy to wait 15 minutes beyond the scheduled start time before the session is forfeited. If your session begins late due to your late arrival, the trainer continues with the session and ends at the scheduled time.

Cancellation Policy

Failure to show up for a session will result in a forfeit of the session. Exceptions will only be made in the case of a medical emergency accompanied by a doctor’s note. Note: No refunds are given unless a written medical excuse is provided.
